The City of Spearfish South Dakota is a picturesque community in the Northern Black Hills of South Dakota. It is home to Black Hills State University. BHSU provides Spearfish with many social, educational opportunities as well as exciting sporting events -- GO JACKETS!! The estimated population of Spearfish and it's 5 mile zone is about 13,000.
Spearfish has year-around activities for almost anyone to enjoy. Many activities surround beautiful Spearfish Creek. The community bike path follows along the creek from Spearfish Canyon to the North end of town. Along the way, you will find the Spearfish City Campground, the Historic D C Booth Fish Hatchery, Centennial Park with Project Playland along with five additional city parks. Each Summer Spearfish hosts the Corvette Rally, The National Impala Association Conference and Festival in the Park. Downtown Spearfish, First Friday Markets are an opportunity to enjoy a warm summer evening with a festive atmosphere.
Taking in the Fall Colors in the Hills is enjoyed by all. Other activities include the Harvest Festival and Taste of Spearfish. Or take a quick trip to Deadwood to see Kool Deadwood Nights and the Deadwood Jam.
When the snow flies, Terry Peak Ski Area and Mystic Miners Resort are just a half hour's trip for outdoor fun. Many enjoy the miles of cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in the Black Hills. When the grass greens up and the leaves come out in Springtime, people enjoy hiking and bicycle riding. It is just a short drive to ride your horse or bicycle and hike The Mickleson Trail through the Black Hills.
